iPad Apps!
This site details lots of really cool iPad apps for students with lots of different kinds of needs. I use it all the time!
Social Stories
Social workers use social stories all the time to help students learn about desired behaviors. They read like stories, and they have lots of pictures in them, which visual kids love - heck, all kids love them! You can replace the photos in the social stories on this site with your child's photo. You can even create your own together! Print/create a story that addresses a behavior you'd like to work on with your child and read them together daily - if not many times a day! See if you like any of the suggestions on this site - there are plenty more sites with social stories on them out there - check out Pintrest, too!
More sites with social stories:
Some of these are written with children with autism in mind, but they can be useful for any child!
Kansas Technical Assistance Network
Autism Inspiration
Kids Relaxation
I like this site because it provides lots of fun and practical activities to do with your child to help them relax in different situations. Check it out - it's really quite useful and fun!
Jill Kuzma
This site is jam-packed with resources, reviews, and other wonderful information about social/emotional skill-building. It is targeted toward professionals in the field, but it can provide a wealth of information to interested parents, as well. Her Great Websites and Resources page is especially helpful.
"The Leader in Me" Parent Guide
This is a great resource for parents who are interested in applying the 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, developed by Stephen R. Covey, at home with their families. The guide goes through each habit, providing suggestions for how parents can discuss and practice the habit with their children. Some of our teachers are beginning to apply these concepts in their classrooms - see if you find it helpful at home and let us know!
The Behavior Doctor
This site provides practical tips for addressing difficult behavior in kids. Much of the information is targeted to parents. The author is a great story-teller, and if you navigate the site, you'll find a goldmine of information!
